CHILDREN HEALTH
Common Health Related Issues Here In Bahrain

Air Pollution And Respiratory Problems

Unfortunately Bahrain sufferWhether you have kids running around or are pregnant (or both!), the summer months are filled with outdoor fun. But hazards exist in these otherwise carefree days of the sunny season.

How can you protect your kids — and yourself? A few precautions and smart strategies will go a long way toward ensuring safe summer days for kids, babies, babies-on-the-way, and their moms, for this month we will tackle Sun danger, I believe it is the most annoying thing here in Bahrain during summer J

Sun

You already know that spending your youthful summer afternoons basted in baby oil wasn't a good idea. That big ball of fire calls for careful planning and protection — particularly when it comes to young skin. Sunscreen, clothing, and shelter are the best defenses against excessive sun exposure, whether you from a fairly poor air quality as a result some of the following illnesses may be aggravated.

Asthma

The usual symptoms of asthma are:

  • Coughing
  • Wheezing
  • Shortness of breath
  • Tightness in the chest

Not everyone will get all of these symptoms. Some people experience them from time to time; a few people may experience these symptoms all the time. It is difficult to say for sure what causes asthma. What we do know is that:

  • you are more likely to develop asthma if you have a family history of asthma, eczema or allergies
  • it is likely that this family history combined with certain environmental factors influences whether or not someone develops asthma
  • many aspects of modern lifestyles – such as changes in housing and diet and a more hygienic environment – may have contributed to the rise in asthma over the last few decades
  • research has shown that smoking during pregnancy significantly increases the risk of a child developing asthma
  • children whose parents smoke are more likely to develop asthma
  • environmental pollution can make asthma symptoms worse and may play a part in causing some asthma
  • adult onset asthma may develop after a viral infection
  • irritants found in the workplace may lead to a person developing asthma (occupational asthma).

Some treatments available:

The following guidelines are suitable for both children and adults and are the recommended steps to follow in an asthma attack:

  • Take your reliever inhaler (usually blue), immediately
  • Sit down and ensure that any tight clothing is loosened. Do not lie down
  • If no immediate improvement during an attack, continue to take one puff of your reliever inhaler every minute for five minutes or until symptoms improve
  • If your symptoms do not improve in five minutes – or you are in doubt – call 999 or a doctor urgently
  • Continue to take one puff of your reliever inhaler every minute until help arrives

Obviously if this doesn’t relieve the symptoms seek medical assistance immediately
